Foundation and New Beginnings
In 1964, the journey of La Jon, Inc. began when William (Bill) Pierson moved from Columbus, OH, to Parkersburg, WV, to join his uncle Harry Herdman in the family business. Responding to Hobart's initiative, they expanded the business to include service and parts operations, complementing the existing sales efforts. Bill underwent a 6-week service program at Hobart’s headquarters in Troy, Ohio, mastering the repair techniques for their comprehensive product line.
A Sudden Change in Leadership
Following Harry's unexpected stroke and subsequent retirement, Norris Kessler, Hobart’s regional manager, appointed Bill as the new Sales & Service Agent, marking a shift in leadership within the company.
Steady Growth and Expansion
Between 1964 and 1980, the company experienced consistent growth, establishing a robust clientele and a strong reputation in the industry. In 1980, Hobart supported an expansion into a larger facility with enhanced showrooms to accommodate both Hobart and KitchenAid products, signaling a milestone in the company's development.
Expanding Horizons
In 1997, the company expanded its reach by acquiring an adjacent sales and service territory that included north central West Virginia and Western Maryland, significantly increasing its market presence and service capacity.
Leadership Transition
Following his retirement in 1998, Bill's son and current owner, John Pierson, returned to West Virginia from Cleveland, where he had been working as a Territory Sales Manager for Hobart, to purchase and lead the family business into its next chapter.
Broadening the Product Line
In 2003, recognizing the need for specialized products, the company hired a full-time Chemical Sales Representative and introduced a complete range of chemical cleaning products tailored for commercial kitchens, laundry, and janitorial services, seamlessly integrating these new offerings into the existing operations.
